Car accidents are common throughout the state of Maryland. While many are fender benders, some lead to serious injury or even death.
According to state police, a two-vehicle accident in Washington County killed a 5-year-old girl and critically injured the driver. Police noted that the young girl was a passenger in a car when it was hit from behind after stopping to make a left turn. Immediately following the accident she was taken to Children's Hospital; however, she later passed away.
The driver of the vehicle suffered critical injuries.
Early indications are that the driver of the other vehicle did not see the vehicle stopping to make the turn. Both the woman driving the other car, as well as a young child, were treated for injuries.
These types of car accidents often lead to a long investigation, which is currently underway. At this time, police are not moving forward with any charges until they speak with prosecutors.
This story is an example of how distracted driving can lead to serious injury and death. While nobody knows for sure why the woman did not stop, it does not change the fact that the accident happened.
Charges have not yet been filed, but due to the result of the crash, there is a chance that this will happen in the near future after police are finished with their investigation. Those who are involved in such an accident, where they are injured or a loved one is killed, can fight for their rights as an injured party or family member.
