Why was your workers’ compensation claim denied?

Were you injured on the job? Did you become ill as the result of your employment? If you answered yes to either question, you should take the time to learn more about your rights in regards to receiving workers' compensation benefits.

Unfortunately, just because you file a workers' compensation claim it doesn't mean that it will be accepted.

There are many reasons for a denial, including but not limited to the following:

-- You did not report your injury to your company in a timely manner.

-- You did not file a claim with the appropriate state agency within the specified timeframe.

-- Your employer disputes your claim, such as by arguing that you were injured outside of work, not on the job.

-- You have suffered an injury that does not qualify you for compensation.

-- You did not receive the necessary medical treatment required to receive workers' compensation benefits.

-- You are unable to prove that you suffered the injury at work.

You can fight back against some of these reasons for a denial. For example, if your claim was denied due to an employer dispute, you can do your part in proving that you were injured on the job.

If your workers' compensation claim has been denied, don't wait around and look for other ways to get by until you can return to work. Instead, learn more about the process of filing an appeal.

You pay into the workers' compensation system. So, if you need to collect benefits, you should fight for your rights and do whatever it takes to receive compensation.
