Ford issues recalls related to car accidents

| Jun 5, 2014 | Car Accidents

Many of our Maryland readers drive a Ford car, SUV, or truck. While the American automaker has seen its fortunes change over the past few years, several recent recalls has the company in the news for all the wrong reasons.

Last week, Ford announced several recalls impacting more than one million vehicles. Of these, the majority are SUVs that may have a steering issue that can increase the chance of an accident.

The steering issue, related to faulty sensors that could cause the vehicle to lose power steering, includes 915,000 Ford Escapes and Mercury Mariners as well as 196,000 Ford Explorers.

According to Ford, the company is aware of 20 car accidents, as well as eight injuries, that could be potentially related to the steering problem.

Along with the recalls surrounding these SUVs, Ford is recalling nearly 200,000 Taurus sedans. In these vehicles, spanning the model years 2010 to 2014, road salt could corrode the license plate lamp, subsequently leading to a fire.

This is not the first time this year that Ford has issued a recall. Its popular Escape SUV was also part of a recall last month for problems with door handles and side airbags.

There are millions of people all over Maryland, as well as other states, that drive a Ford vehicle every day. Unfortunately, anybody who drives one of these recalled vehicles is putting themselves at risk. While the company is doing its best to recall the vehicles and keep drivers safe, many have already been involved in accidents as a result of the defective parts.
