What should you do after a Baltimore car accident?

Nobody wants to be involved in a car accident, but many people find themselves in this position at some point during their lives. If you live in or around the Baltimore area, or read the paper (!), you know that there are always accidents occurring.

Not all car accidents result in injury, but this is common. If you are injured in a car accident, don't do anything on your own. Instead, you should wait for the ambulance to arrive to ensure that you receive the best care possible.

If you are able to move your car out of harm's way, do so immediately. This will minimize the chance of being involved in another accident, especially if you are on a busy roadway.

Contact the police to inform them of the accident. You want the police to arrive to ensure that an accident report is filed. This may not sound important at the time of the incident, but it is essential if you decide to file a claim in the future.

Once you have received medical attention and are stabilized, it is time to consider how you will receive compensation for your injuries and other damages. You may be able to communicate directly with the insurance companies, however, be careful about doing so on your own. They are notorious for taking advantage of people involved in accidents. If you are unable to reach an agreement with the insurance companies, you may wish to consider a lawsuit.

These are the types of steps you should take following a car accident. In addition to your insurance agent, don't hesitate to consult with a personal injury attorney if necessary.
