Police car collides with scooter in Baltimore

| Nov 28, 2014 | Car Accidents

Police officers were in pursuit of a man on a scooter in Baltimore, down by Kirk Avenue and Bartlett Avenue. The exact details of what happened are a bit unclear, but the police cruiser appears to have hit the scooter. The car then veered away and slammed into a pole.

The driver of the scooter was injured, and so were three police officers. While the injuries to two of the officers were not as extensive, one was badly injured, to the point that initial reports showed that his life was in danger.

A 28-year-old witness described the crash as a disaster, adding that she had never before seen anything like it.

The pursuit apparently began when officer noticed a handful of people standing around dirt bikes. They came up to the group, which scattered and ran from the officers. Some of them were riding unregistered dirt bikes that should not have been driven in the city, so the officers began to chase them.

One man, rather than riding a dirt bike, ran over to a second man on a scooter. He hopped on the back of the scooter and took of. That is why police were chasing the scooter at the time of the crash.

In the confusion, the police did lose the person they had started chasing to begin with.

After car accidents that result in extensive injuries, people who are hurt must know their rights to seek compensation for their injuries. If they do have the right to ask for compensation, they also need to know what legal steps to take to secure that financial assistance.
