Types of negligence that cause a bicycle accident

| Apr 28, 2015 | Car Accidents

Any type of motor vehicle accident is scary. Not only can property be damaged, but more importantly, those involved can be injured or even killed.

Motor vehicle drivers, bicyclists, and pedestrians should all be aware of what is going on around them at all times. There are many types of negligence that can cause a bicycle accident, including those involving:

— Delivery trucks. Since these vehicles are always stopping and starting, there is a greater chance of losing track of a bicyclist, thus causing an accident.

— Road construction. It doesn’t matter where you live, you know there will be areas of road construction from time to time. When not marked in the appropriate manner, this increases the risk of an accident.

— Bike couriers. If you drive a bike for your job, you will be on the road on a regular basis. This increases the chance of being struck by a motor vehicle.

With so many types of negligence causing a bicycle accident, it is easy to see why no two incidents are exactly the same. What is the same is the fact that the victim can be seriously injured or killed in such an accident.

As a driver, you should be aware of bicyclists. As a bicyclist, you should do whatever you can to avoid trouble.

Even when all parties on the road are acting responsibly, there is always the chance of an accident. If you or a loved one have been injured in a bicycle accident, read through our “Bicycle & Pedestrian Accidents” webpage for more information.
