Common causes of construction injuries

If you work in the construction industry, you probably realize that an injury could happen at any time. You don't want to think about this, but it is better to be prepared for every possible situation. This will put you in the best position to avoid trouble down the road.

Below are some of the most common causes of construction injuries:

-- Falls. This happens when a person falls from height, such as a ladder, roof, or scaffolding.

-- Falling objects. Construction workers should always wear protective gear, such as a helmet, as it is always possible for debris to fall from above.

-- Equipment accidents. Construction workers use a variety of equipment on a regular basis. Even if the equipment is used properly, there is always the chance of an accident.

-- Fire or explosion. Some construction sites have a greater risk of this than others. For example, flammable chemicals could cause a fire or explosion.

-- Building collapse. This should never happen, but it remains a problem in the construction industry. If a collapse occurs, workers could be trapped inside.

-- Repetitive motion injuries. Due to the physical labor, these injuries have the potential to set in at any time. For example, overuse can cause muscle or joint damage.

These are just a few of the many common causes of construction accidents and injuries. Workers should do whatever they can to avoid trouble. If this is not enough, an injured worker must receive immediate medical attention. This can go a long way in helping the person avoid additional injury.
