You can seek compensation after an electrocution injury

Power lines are dangerous to work with, and everyone who has ever worked around them knows this fact. There are safety regulations in place to prevent workers from being injured or even killed due to contacting overhead lines with metal ladders. Doing this can cause electricity to course through the ladder, electrocuting everyone it comes into contact with.

When using metal ladders, workers need to be trained in the dangers of placing the ladder on an electrical line. The overhead power lines need to be identified at all work sites, and touching or being near those lines should be limited when at all possible. If work needs to be done near the overhead line and it's powered, then the electric company should be contacted by the construction company. That way, the utility company may be able to help by shutting down the electricity to the line or by providing safety tips to the workers.

Workers are meant to stay a safe distance away from these lines. Materials being stored shouldn't be near these lines, either. In fact, if employees are going to be on ladders near these lines, they shouldn't be using metal ladders at all. That way, if an accident does happen, the chance of electrocution will be limited.

The Centers for Disease Control and Prevention has stated that at least 154 people died from electrocution caused by touching overhead power lines between 1992 and 2005. There are ways to avoid these dangers, but if your employer didn't take the right steps, then you can seek compensation for your injuries. Our website has more information on what to do if you've suffered from electrocution or lost a loved one in a workplace accident.
