What are some of the most common workplace accidents?

The construction industry is one of the most dangerous for its workers. The Centers for Disease Control and Prevention reports that there were 3.3 million nonfatal injuries and illnesses alone in 2009 with a whopping 9 percent in the construction industry. There are a number of different accidents that can happen, including the following:

Falls

Falls are one of the most common injuries because of the work construction teams perform. Using ladders, working on cranes, using scaffolding and generally working at higher levels than the average person makes construction workers more likely to be injured in a fall.

Falling object collisions

When someone is working above you, there's always a risk of being hit by a falling object. For example, a painter on scaffolding could accidentally knock the paint can off the scaffolding. That can could then hit a person walking below, causing an injury.

Repetitive motion injuries

Repetitive motion injuries are most common for those working in factories. The line workers repeat the same motions several times a minute, which can lead to wear and tear on the muscles, tendons, ligaments and bones. Over time, that damage can result in the need for surgery or other medical help.

Explosions

Explosions are common in places that use pressure containment systems or even on farms with grain bins. When products ignite unexpectedly, workers who get caught in the explosion can suffer burns and other injuries.

These are just some of the accidents that can take place. In any situation where you're hurt, remember that you may be covered by workers' compensation, so you can get the medical care you need to get better.
