Maryland pedestrian accidents involving motor vehicles

At our law firm, we represent injured people who were negligently or recklessly struck by vehicles while walking, running or standing as pedestrians on Maryland roads. We conduct a comprehensive investigation of these complex cases to uncover all potentially responsible parties, including drivers as well as those responsible for dangerous road or intersection design or maintenance.

Fair compensation

We then negotiate a settlement or engage in litigation, if necessary, to recover fair compensation for the victim’s injuries and other losses. Obviously, the human body is no match for a heavy vehicle and the resulting injuries can be catastrophic and permanent such as traumatic brain injury, spinal cord damage, severe fractures, paralysis and others, including death.

It is important to carefully project what an adequate recovery would be, taking into account damages for:

  • Medical costs, past and future
  • Medical equipment, including vehicle modifications
  • Long-term care
  • Assistance with activities of daily living and housekeeping
  • Pain and suffering
  • Lost wages, past and future
  • Loss of earning capacity
  • Mental anguish
  • Wrongful death
  • And more

Maryland pedestrian accidents

The Baltimore Sun recently published an Associated Press article about Maryland pedestrian accidents. The piece describes dangerous hotspots for pedestrians like Georgia Avenue in Montgomery County, Coastal Highway in Ocean City and University Boulevard in Langley Park. A transit activist is cited for his opinion that the Maryland State Highway Administration or SHA has been “slow to address problem areas” for pedestrians, a point disputed by SHA officials.

In any given pedestrian accident case, part of our investigation concerns whether a unit of government failed to safely design, mark or maintain a roadway, intersection or construction area and whether this failure contributed to the collision and resulting injuries.
