Recovering from a Maryland work injury

Work injuries are not only physically painful, they are mentally taxing. Any time you are out of work for an extended period due to a serious injury, you’ll likely spend a great deal of time thinking about your climbing medical expenses, your utilities and other bills, and your job security.

If you are in a rush to get back to work, though, you might actually end up doing yourself more harm than good. Here are some helpful tips for recovering from a work-related injury.

  • Take it slow: trying to get back to work too quickly can result in further physical harm to you. It’s vitally important to do things at a reasonable pace, and to follow all your doctor’s orders about the amount of activity you can expect at each stage of your recovery.
  • Do your rehab: physical therapy is a key component of any work-related injury, particularly when surgery is involved. Taking your physical therapist’s recommendations, and religiously performing the exercises, is an important aspect of recovery.
  • Stay as active as you can: resting your injured body is a vital part of recovery, but so is movement. This goes hand-in-hand with physical therapy; staying as active as possible, while still respecting the limitations of your injury, will help you recover faster both physically and mentally.
  • Set reasonable recovery goals: having reasonable goals, set in conjunction with your doctor and physical therapist, will help you stay on track. Don’t get discouraged if you have a setback, but try to regularly progress in your recovery. Having these goals will keep you moving in the right direction.
  • File for workers’ compensation as soon as possible: workers’ compensation benefits cover your lost wages and pay your medical bills. A successful workers’ compensation claim can help rid you of some of your worries, allowing you to focus your time and energy on recovery.

Our attorneys can help you file for workers’ compensation benefits or appeal a denied claim on your behalf. Knowing that your medical expenses and lost wages are covered can give you confidence and peace of mind as you recover.
