Brian Katzenberg’s role in discovering Baltimore’s artists of tomorrow

At Cohen, Snyder, Eisenberg & Katzenberg, P.A., we are proud of the part we play in encouraging Baltimore’s young local artists to develop their talent and share their work with the public. Specifically, one of our attorneys, Brian D. Katzenberg, is a board member of Arts Every Day. This nonprofit organization supports the Baltimore City Public Schools’ ability to provide students with education and access to the arts.

Bringing ‘Baltimore Bright’ to the courthouse

Arts Every Day fulfills part of its mission through Courting Art Baltimore, its annual student art competition. Earlier this spring, students throughout the city submitted artwork based on this year’s theme of “Baltimore Bright.” The District Court in Baltimore City Eastside Courthouse displayed professional reproductions of 20 submissions chosen as finalists before the top five winners were announced on May 20. The winners each received shares of a $15-20,000 college scholarship fund. Also, two underclassmen will receive seats at Maryland Institute College of Art’s Young People’s Studio.

Along with his work for Arts Every Day, Brian is the chairman of Courting Art Baltimore. For him, the contest means more than the noble mission of giving local youth artists a chance at a college education. Having beautiful, creative art in a courthouse known for adjudicating emotionally difficult matters like domestic assault can make a difference for the parties involved, Brian recently told WMAR-TV at the winners’ announcement ceremony.

“A client of mine who was in this courthouse on a really difficult matter, he got really upset and he had to take a break. He came out, and he saw a piece of art that he knew one of the students [made], and he was able to collect himself. So that’s when it becomes real,” Brian said.

Congratulations to the artists

We at Cohen, Snyder, Eisenberg & Katzenberg, P.A. congratulate all the artists who participated in Courting Art Baltimore this year, as well as Brian for his commitment to arts education in the city.
