While there is nothing wrong with coworkers meeting up for drinks after work, this is something that some companies have taken entirely too far. Accidents and injuries are often times the result of a drinking culture at the workplace.

The abuse of alcohol in the workplace can be costly. For example, there is always the risk of a workplace accident, such as when an employee drinks and then attempts to operate a piece of machinery or motor vehicle.
Along with accidents and injuries, alcohol consumption can also lead to lost productivity, which means the company is going to suffer in a variety of ways. Of course, there is always the thought of replacing employees who take things too far, which also costs a lot of money.
One survey found that 9 percent of heavy drinkers have missed work as the result of a hangover, with 6 percent having attended work drunk.
There are many things that can encourage such behavior, but none of them are acceptable. There are entirely too many risks associated with alcohol in the workplace, with the most serious being an accident that could lead to injury or even death.
