Workers trapped in mud survive construction accident in Maryland

| Aug 29, 2014 | Construction Workers' Accidents

When you go to work at a construction site in Maryland, the last thing you probably think will happen is a construction accident. Minor safety hazards can result in major events, and all workers need to be educated in how to stay safe. If your life has been put in danger because of lax rules or dangerous workplaces, you may have a right to seek compensation for your lost wages, pain and suffering, and injuries.

Two workers were recently trapped in a collapsed trench in Potomac after a construction accident, but fortunately, they survived the accident with only a few hours of serious danger. The news reports that the workers were trapped up to their shoulders by mud; they were trapped for around three hours, and they were fortunate that the trench did not collapse further thanks to rescue teams.

At the time of the accident, the Montgomery County Fire and Rescue team was called to assist. A co-worker of the men who were trapped contacted them by going to a nearby home and asking for help, reports claim. When rescue teams arrived, they had hours of work ahead of them; they had to stabilize the trench and pump air down to be able to talk to the trapped men. One person on the scene reported that the rescue efforts actually went faster than expected, showing how serious a situation like this really is.

After several hours, the men were able to be pulled out by rescue workers. They were sent to a local hospital for treatment, but they have since been released. The news did not report the names or ages of the men, and their injuries were not reported as being life-threatening.
