What are the most common types of work comp claims?

There is no avoiding it. Every year, thousands of workers throughout the United States are injured at work. While some are able to treat the ailment and immediately return to work, others are not as fortunate. Instead, they are faced with a longer recovery and treatment, which means time away from their job.

There are many types of injuries that can lead to a workers' compensation claim, with the following among the most common:

-- Overexertion. This is the result of lifting, pushing or pulling, causing an injury.

-- Slip and fall accident. This can occur on dangerous job sites, as well as office buildings that are seemingly well kept.

-- Fall to a lower level. This typically happens when a person falls from a ladder or roof, such as those in the construction industry.

-- Bodily reaction. When a person trips, but does not fall, he or she could still be injured. Sprains or strains, such as those of the ankle or shoulder, are common in this situation.

-- Struck by an object. This can include everything from an item falling from a shelf in an office to construction material dropped from a roof.

Many types of accidents can occur at a place of employment. Even when a person thinks he or she is working at a safe job, such as in a secure office building, something could go wrong.

Filing a work comp claim can be a challenging process, with some of these resulting in a denial. When this happens, consulting with an attorney could be the first step in filing an appeal.
