What to do if you're in a crash in Maryland

After you're involved in a car accident in Maryland, you may be unsure of the steps you need to take next. There are several things you're expected to do if you're able, but of course if you're badly injured. some of these things may be waived and taken care of by the authorities. Before you decide on any potential settlements or agreements with the party who was at-fault, it's important to discuss the settlement and to determine if it's enough to cover your medical care, pain and suffering and lost wages.

To start with, after an accident, if you're not hurt, you are expected to check on everyone else involved and then call the police. If you are injured and called for help, remain where you are and wait for assistance to come. You'll likely be treated either at the scene or the hospital while the police on the scene make a record of the accident.

When you're able, you'll need to discuss the accident with your insurance company. You need several pieces of information to do this. You need the other driver's car insurance information, driver's license number and preferably the license plate identification numbers for every vehicle that was involved in the crash.

In Maryland, if the other driver does not have insurance information due to not carrying insurance, then they could be at risk of losing their license for driving uninsured. As a victim, this can make it harder for you to get the compensation you'd expect to receive from an insurance company, but you are able to seek a claim against the driver who was at fault directly.
