Frequently asked Maryland workers' compensation questions

Do you live in the state of Maryland? Are you in position to file a workers' compensation claim? If so, this means you have become ill or were injured on the job.

If you want to file a claim, there should be two things on your mind: doing so as quickly as possible, and taking steps to increase your chance of an approval.

Here are some frequently asked questions associated with the Maryland workers' compensation system:

-- How long does it take for a claim to be processed? Once a claim form is completed and submitted, as long as there is no missing information, it will be processed in roughly two to three business days.

-- What is the status of my workers' compensation claim? You can learn more about the status online or via telephone. Either way, it is important to stay current with your claim to ensure that no more information is required and that the process is moving forward.

-- How long does it take to receive a payment once the settlement is signed? The insurer or your employer is required to begin payment within 15 days of approved status.

Nobody wants to make a workers' compensation claim, but it is nice to know that this benefit is available to you in the event that you are injured or become ill as the direct result of your employment. You should never feel bad about taking advantage of this benefit, as it is your right. If your claim is denied, don't hesitate in filing an appeal and taking the necessary steps in reversing the decision.
