Understanding vocational rehabilitation

Were you injured on the job? Did you receive workers' compensation benefits? If you answered yes to both questions, you realize that the future may be cloudy. Fortunately, in the state of Maryland, you can access the vocational rehabilitation program.

In short, vocational rehabilitation is a benefit that provides a covered worker, who is unable to return to his or her previous job, with the assistance needed to re-enter the working world.

A vocational rehabilitation specialist will step in to provide a variety of services, including but not limited to job placement, testing, vocational counseling and training.

Whether or not you are eligible for vocational rehabilitation depends on many factors, including if your injury is preventing you from returning to your previous position. You can learn more about this benefit by speaking with your insurance claim representative.

If you need vocational rehabilitation, you will work with a private or public rehab counselor. In the end, what matters most is that you receive the help you need in order to re-enter the workplace and once again provide for yourself (and maybe a family).

Nobody wants to be injured on the job, but this happens to many people in Maryland every year. While some recover and take on their old position soon enough, others are unable to do so. When this happens, they need to consider what the future holds. The ability to take advantage of vocational rehabilitation is something to consider. Even though things may seem bad and even though it may appear that you will never work again, there are programs that can help ensure this does not happen.
