Car accidents more common in northeast United States

If you live in the Baltimore area, you know one thing to be true: people like to drive fast. This is the case with many other big cities in the northeast part of the United States, including Philadelphia, Boston and New York City among others.

The National Highway Transportation Safety Administration notes that there is a car accident in this region every 10 seconds. Furthermore, a Centers for Disease Control and Prevention report states that drivers in the northeast, spanning from Washington D.C., to Massachusetts, have a higher risk of being involved in a crash.

There are many reasons for this, with federal officials pointing towards construction and congestion as two of the top factors for the increased risk. The study also shows that distracted driving remains the top cause of all motor vehicle accidents.

Maryland State Police is doing its part in cutting back on the number of local accidents. With its SPIDRE team, for example, police are able to target drunk drivers with more efficiency this holiday season. During this time of the year, a large number of people get behind the wheel after drinking too much alcohol. As a result, car accidents causing both injury and death increase.

While car accidents in the northeast United States are more common than other parts of the country, this is a problem that plagues every state. There is no way to eliminate every accident, as there always be people on the road who make poor decisions.

If a person or a loved one is injured or killed in a motor vehicle accident, one of the first steps considered is consulting with an attorney.
